This Obsidian stone with its black colour is a volcanic glass. Volcanic glass is the uncrystallized product of lava: the lava cools so rapidly that atoms are unable to transform themselves into a crystalline structure. Like all glass, its state is just in between the close-packed material of a crystal and the low-packed array of gas. It is found in areas of recent volcanic activity, like this piece from the western area of Guatemala with Acatenago as the most famous active one. The first use of Obsidian by people was as cutting tools, making it into knives or spear points. Black Obsidian is a stone that increases your grounding energy and helps to center yourself by breaking negative attachments with people around you.
